Step 2: Apply for Admissions

You must apply for admissions before registering for your classes. TSJC maintains an “open admissions” policy, meaning there are no restrictions for students 16 and older who wish to attend Trinidad State Junior College.

Complete the Online application

In addition to the admissions application, students are required to provide the following documentation to Student Services:

• Immunization Records
• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Step 3: Sign up for the College Opportunity Fund (COF)

The College Opportunity Trust Fund (COF) , created by the Colorado Legislature, provides a stipend to eligible undergraduate students. The stipend pays a portion of your total in-state tuition when you attend a Colorado public institution.
Eligible undergraduate students must apply, be admitted and enroll at a participating institution. Both new and continuing students are eligible for the stipend. Qualifying students may use the stipend for eligible undergraduate classes. The stipend is paid on a per credit hour basis to the institution at which the student is enrolled. The credit-hour amount will be set annually by the General Assembly.

Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid

Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.  This is the first step in the qualification process for financial aid.  You may complete the form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or you may pick up a paper copy of the form from either of our Financial Aid offices. 

• At the Alamosa campus, stop by Room 160 or call (719) 589-7024 or 1-800-411-8382.  
• At the Trinidad campus, stop by the Berg Administration building Room 209 or call (719) 846-5553 or 1-800-621-TSJC (8752)

Loans and scholarships are available!  Download the latest scholarship booklet, or contact Financial Aid for a current list of loans and scholarships that you may apply for.

Apply early to avoid delays in receiving payments.  Processing of Financial Aid can take up to 12 weeks to complete.

Step 5: Assessment

Colorado Community Colleges are required by law to assess basic skills for all incoming students with a placement test.  Individuals must complete the ACCUPLACER online exams before registering for classes.  

Students are exempt from testing if they meet one of the following criteria:

• A degree from an accredited college or university
• Successful previous college credit in freshman English composition and College Algebra
• Acceptable SAT or ACT scores taken within the last 2 years
• Enrollment in only one course for either employment enhancement or personal growth.

Students must show evidence of their exemption.

Step 6: Advising

An initial advisement session is required for all new students.  Advisors help you achieve your educational goals.  Assessment results will be explained.  Get answers about classes and programs offered at Trinidad State Junior College.  Your advisor will help you choose the degree or certificate that is right for you, then recommend the courses to get the training and education you want.

Advising is more than just choosing classes.  Advisors are available throughout the year.  Make frequent appointments with your advisor to discuss your program plan or your transfer to a 4-year college. They can also help you with general questions about your program, plan for subsequent semesters, and receiver referrals to appropriate resources.

• To contact an advisor on the Trinidad campus, call (719) 846-5557 or stop by the Student Services office in the Berg Administration building Room 201.

Step 7: Registration

Getting registered for your classes is easy.  If you have already made an appointment with an advisor, in most cases, they can enroll you into your desired courses during your advising session.  If you prefer to register for classes at a later time, you may do so either online 24 hours a day 7 days a week, or in person at either of our two campuses.

Registering for classes online

You may register for your classes online, anytime, using the Go2TSJC Portal.  Simply login to the system using the permanent login information you received in your e-mail or in your mailbox.  This will consist of your Student number and your unique PIN number. Once logged in, simply go to the Student menu.  Follow the instructions and click Submit to register for your classes.

Registering for classes in person

To register for classes in person, simply stop by the Student Services office during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time) at your selected campus, and ask to register for your classes.

• On the Valley campus, stop by Room 160.
• On the Trinidad campus, stop by the Berg Administration building Room 201.

Step 8: Visit the Business Office

The Business Office is where you pay tuition and fees, make payment arrangements, or explore alternate payment options.

If you are scheduled to receive financial aid, or have already received your award letter from the Financial Aid office, and plan on charging your books at the Bookstore toward your financial aid, make sure you notify the Business office staff.  They are the ones that establish your credit with the Bookstore.

Step 9: Student Identification Card

Before you are officially a student at Trinidad State Junior College, you will need your Student Identification Card.  This card not only protects and identifies you as a student, it does much more.

This card is your key to many great services available to you as a student at Trinidad State Junior College.  With this card you can…

• Purchase items at the college Bookstore against your Financial Aid credit.
• Check out books from the Samuel Freudenthal Memorial Library on the Trinidad campus.
• Receive FREE admission to many sporting events hosted in Scott Gymnasium on the Trinidad campus.
• Receive FREE admission to many student activities and special events hosted at your campus.
• Access your meal plan from Sodexho food services available at the Trinidad campus.

Step 10: Books and Supplies

All of your required/recommended books and most of your school supplies are available locally and conveniently at each of our campuses from the Trek Inn Bookstore.  You will also find many unique gifts and TSJC branded clothing items available for purchase.

• The Valley campus Bookstore is located in the Student Center across 4th Street from the main campus building.
• The Trinidad campus Bookstore is located on the first floor of the Sullivan Student Center building.
