The committee discussed the working document - summary of 2004-2005 assessments. The document, which consists of all the summary analyses received via email were appended together and published to the AISL website (see link). After discussing the results of the document, the committee decided that there are several clear issues that come from the assessments and that we, as a standing committee, should recommend to the president, namely: * that technology should serve instruction and not vice versa - with examples * that in-service training needs more instructional focus * SI needs SI at satellite campuses - PicTel could help with that The following is a very rough draft of the recommendations (PLEASE PROPOSE REVISIONS in REPLY TO ALL): Whereas the TSJC mission statement states: "We are committed to offering traditional and alternative approaches to education, providing quality instruction, and promoting lifelong learning," Whereas numerous* assessments indicate problems with technology resources, the AISLC recommends that all campus planning activities should treat technology resources as servants of education, i.e., technology should enhance and extend instruction and lifelong learning. To the extent that technology serves Item 1: The TSJC technology resources (web site, Blackboard, PicTel, etc.) should place as a top priority to serve instruction; when, and to the extent that the resource hampers instruction, the situation should be remedied: - placing instructional material on the TSJC website is appropriate because: + TSJC instructional materials ARE recruiting tools + TSJC students need to have convenient access to materials + - PicTel problems abound + text transmitted illegibly - in some cases, in reverse + need for split screen (face shot and document camera) Item 2: In-service on Active Learning / Group Learning** Item 3: SSS - Pictel *** End of very rough draft of the recommendations: * I am running some queries through the database to quantify this statement ** flesh this out?? *** can someone provide the words here?? **** are there other major recommendations that I missed????
Status Tabled - Philbin will start email thread on this topicIV. Discussion of Bylaws in relation to Annual Review
Tabled after short discussion of the issues, namely that the actual timeline of the committee should match what the Bylaws state, so let's change the bylaws to match what we're doing.
