Trinchera Ranch Donates to STEM Endowment Fund

Trinchera DonationAlicia Ryland from Trinchera Ranch, recently presented a check from The Moore Charitable and Trinchera Foundations to Trinidad State Junior College Valley Campus in Alamosa for TSJC’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Endowment Fund.

TSJC Valley Campus Associate Vice President, Marta Shoman thanked Ryland for Trinchera’s support for the college as it strives to significantly increase the number of disadvantaged students entering and completing STEM coursework at the Valley Campus.

In October, 2008 TSJC was awarded $1.7 million through the U.S. Department of Education’s College Cost Reduction and Access Act – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CCRAA STEM) Grant for the purpose of increasing STEM enrollment, providing state-of-the-art equipment, enhancing existing programs, providing new STEM programs, academic opportunities and resources, exciting and motivating Hispanic and low income students to earn STEM degrees, and creating new transfer relationships with four-year institutions.

A STEM Endowment Fund was created to sustain STEM programming and scholarship opportunities for the institution and disadvantaged students pursuing a STEM degree at TSJC. Funds donated will be managed by the TSJC Educational Foundation. The STEM endowment will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000.00 with federal funds from the CCRAA STEM Grant. The $200,000 fund will mature according to federal guidelines and then be released to serve TSJC’s STEM needs as defined by the TSJC Educational Foundation.

“The TSJC Educational Foundation is grateful for The Moore Charitable and Trinchera Foundations’ generous contribution to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Endowment Fund. The STEM Endowment Fund will provide a permanent resource for sustainability of STEM opportunities for students of TSJC in the years to come,” said Toni DeAngelis, Executive Director of the TSJC Educational Foundation.
