Dreams come true for PBL Student

Chris with his award

Chris Dickerson poses with his third place award

Orlando, Florida - a place where dreams come true - was a suitable site for over 1,700 of America’s brightest college students to showcase their talents as future business leaders and vie for the opportunity to win over $90,000 in cash awards.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), the largest and oldest student business organization, held its National Leadership Conference in Orlando on June 23-26. Contenders from across the United States and the Virgin Islands competed in more than 55 business and leadership related events in an effort to sharpen their core business skills and expand their networks.

Chris Dickerson from Trinidad State Junior College in Alamosa received national recognition at the PBL Awards of Excellence on June 2. Dickerson placed third nationwide in the Web Design competition. It was an exciting moment for the Colorado members as they witnessed Chris accepting his award from Gecko from Geico, the sponsors of the 2011 Web Design competition.

Chris wasn’t the only winner at the Awards of Excellence. Donna Theimer received recognition as Advisor of the Year for the state of Colorado. About Chris she said, “Chris, TSJC PBL president for the 2012 school year, will provide tremendous leadership skills for incoming and current students participating in PBL. He has expressed enthusiasm for encouraging high school FBLA members to continue their leadership growth through their participation in PBL as well as offering community members an opportunity to become Professional members of PBL.”

“Not only have we demonstrated that students from two year colleges can successfully contend with four- year colleges, TSJC is also guiding students with spirited leadership,” says Dickerson. “Anyone’s future is as bright as the bridges they build. I have hopes that many will find these bridges in higher education.”
