Trinidad State Junior College Educational Foundation is pleased to announce Toney Cantu has accepted an appointment to serve on the TSJC Educational Foundation Board of Directors. As Senior Vice President of the San Luis Valley Federal Bank, he brings over 33 years of banking experience with him. Toney is a native of the San Luis Valley. He grew up in Manassa, Co and graduated from Centauri High School. After Toney graduated from Adams State College in 1970 with a degree in Secondary Education and Business, he ran a local grocery store for several years. He left that position to spend several years doing one of the things he loved most - being a "cowboy" and working for a cattle ranch in Antonito, Co. After leaving that job, Cantu was hired at San Luis Valley Federal Bank and moved to Alamosa with his wife Eileen and daughters, Jill and Tanya. Toney enjoys being active in the community and serving on many committees. Toney is an ASU Alumni Board member and served five years as President of the Alumni Board, Treasurer of the SLV Pro Bono Association, TSJC IT committee, TSJC Educational Foundation Investment committee, and now a member of the TSJC Educational Foundation Board of Directors.

The mission of the TSJC Educational Foundation is to promote the growth and development of Trinidad State Junior College. The Board of Directors provides guidance for the Foundation’s extensive operations.

“I am honored to be appointed to the TSJC Educational Foundation Board. Trinidad State Junior College is a great asset to the valley. I enjoy being able to help our community and will do my best to see that TSJC continues to thrive here in the San Luis Valley,” said Cantu.

State Farm agent, Laura DeBella who is the TSJC Educational Foundation Board President commented, “The TSJC Educational Foundation is honored to have Mr. Cantu join our Foundation Board. Toney’s business experience, analytical ability and positive attitude make him a most welcome addition to the board, especially as we move forward with great dreams for the Alamosa Campus. Knowing that Toney already has many other commitments, we deeply appreciate his willingness to volunteer his time and talents to the advancement of the TSJC Foundation.”

Dr. Charles Bohlen, Interim TSJC President, remarked, “I am delighted that Mr. Cantu has agreed to become a member of the TSJC Foundation Board. As a community college, TSJC needs the involvement of community leaders in guiding its direction to assure that it provides the very best educational services possible. Since the Foundation provides support to both our TSJC campuses, it is important that there be Valley representation on the Board. Mr. Cantu will bring his leadership skills to the Board and he will provide a valuable link to our Valley Community. He is well known and respected and he will be an asset in our fund raising efforts in the Valley.”
