Program Description
The ADN program guides the student through learning the many skills of direct patient care that can be applied in any healthcare setting. The program offers both theoretical and applied instruction in a variety of settings from the classroom, laboratories, clinical settings and simulated laboratories. A variety of areas are integrated into the program; adult, gerontological, obstetric, pediatric, and psychiatric-mental health nursing. Also incorporated are entry level leadership courses that help build the students ability to direct and supervise. After successful completion of the first two semesters of the program and the course NUR 169 students have the option of the practical nursing exit point, a certificate program that enables the student to test the National Council Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) state boards. Successful graduates of the two year program are awarded the Associate in Applied Science Degree and are prepared to:
- Accept responsibility for professional growth within the nursing profession
- Utilize the nursing process in caring for assigned patients
- Apply scientific and physiological principles to health care
- Function as members of health care teams, guiding other members in selected aspects of health care
- Demonstrate accountability to the nursing profession
It is at this point students are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). After successful performance on the NCLEX-RN students are qualified for the title of Registered Nurse (RN).
