Did you quit school before your received your high school diploma?
Did you move and never re-enrolled in a new school?
Do you need a GED to get a better job or continue your education?
 
If any of these apply to you, then we are here for you!  Trinidad State Junior College Adult Education Program in Trinidad and Alamosa will prepare you for the GED test.  Our program and all the materials you will need are FREE!.  Plus, we are self-paced so you will work independently at your own speed, in the areas and subject matters that you need!  When the staff feels you are ready to take the GED test, we will set up a time with the GED Administrator in Trinidad or Alamosa.  Once you complete your GED, we’ll also help you continue your education at TSJC by putting you in touch with the right advisors and counselors.  Our goal is to help you get started with the rest of your life.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GED

What courses are required? 
Students prepare for the GED through individual and classroom study time, computer work and class lessons with the assistance from center teachers.

Do I have to take a test before I start? 
Pre-tests are required to determine what level you are and what courses you will need to complete.

How will I know when I can take the actual GED test? 
GED practice tests are given after coursework is completed.  These practice tests determine if a student is ready to take the GED test in a subject area/

What is included in the GED tests?
Language Arts-Writing – Part I and Part II (Essay)
Language Arts-Reading
Social Studies
Science
Mathematics, Part I and Part II

Where are the tests given? 

  • In Trinidad tests are given regularly in the BERG building Room 107 (downstairs by the Little Theatre).  Although the tests are regularly scheduled two Saturday’s per month, other test days are always available for scheduling on an individual basis.  Call Patti at 846-5724 to schedule a test. 
  • In Alamosa, GED tests are usually given on the First Saturday of the month unless it is a holiday.  Test are given at the Valley Campus Room 236 and 238.  For more information call Kicheal  719-589-7060.

What kind of fees are there? 
The fee for the complete battery is $95.00 for all five tests.

  • In Trinidad fees must be paid at the TSJC Business Office located in the Berg Bldg. Call 846-5547 for the Business Office hours.
  • In Alamosa if you were registered in the ABE/GED program and approved for taking the official tests, your fee of $90. is paid by the ABE/GED grant(through the Colorado Department of Education). For more information on testing call Kicheal 719-589-7060.

What should I bring with me to the testing site? 

  • In Trinidad you must bring a receipt of payment and a photo ID with a Colorado address. 
  • In Alamosa you must bring a photo ID with a Colorado address.

How long will it take to get through the GED program? 
That’s up to each individual student.  The following list are what determines how long it will take:

  • What you already know and what you need to learn (determined by pre assessment and subject testing.
  • How much you apply yourself and how much work you complete both at the center and away from the center.
  • How hard you work and how many hours you spend on your studies each week.
