Trinidad headed to McCook, Nebraska for a four game series with tons of playoff drama in the air this past weekend. The top four teams in the region will advance to the playoffs and the Trojans entered the series in fifth place. Trinidad took three of four over the Indians to keep the playoff hopes alive.
Game one of the series was tight with Sean Woolard picking up the 6-4 victory. The Trojan bats went silent in the second game and Ryan Salt took the 5-2 loss.
On Sunday both games were tight early but the Trinidad bats came through in the late innings to blow out McCook 9-1 and 14-4. Austin Davis and Chris Wilson earned the victories on the mound.
“Taking 3 of 4 from anybody in our conference, especially on the road, is not easy to do,” commented Coach Scott Douglas. “I was proud of our players for staying patient and not pressing too much. They have had lots of pressure on them trying to stay alive in this playoff race. The two teams we are fighting with both were at home and we had to take it on the road...a long trip at that. We had some guys have huge weekends with the bats. Coach Olsen has the McCook program headed in the right direction; they fought us hard all weekend. The blowout games were good games into the fifth, we just got it going. All of our focus now must go into Otero and the two games on Wednesday.
The 30-22 Trojans travel to La Junta for their final two conference games this Wednesday afternoon. With their three wins the Trojans moved back into third place two games ahead of both Otero and Western Nebraska.
