The Trinidad State basketball squad wrapped up the regular season with their third straight win, rolling over Air Force JV 74-60. The Trojans were led by freshman Donell Wells with 23 points; Josh Henry had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Kevin Daugherty had 13 points and five assists.
“This was a good tune-up game for us,” commented Coach Rich Holden. “They had a couple of their varsity guys and they practice with their varsity everyday. They competed pretty hard. We have won five of our last seven games and have some momentum going into the tournament. It has been 12 years since we have had a tournament win. At 14-16 I am proud of these guys for making this season respectable after a mid-season losing streak.”
The Trojans will head to Torrington, Wyoming this weekend for the Region IX Tournament. Trinidad will face Miles Community College from Miles City, Montana at 6 p.m. Sunday evening. The Pioneers are 20-9 on the season but are only 9-8 away from home. The tournament starts Saturday and will continue until the championship game on Tuesday night. |
