First Choice Scholarship Opportunities

First Choice Automatic Merit Scholarship$600

Amount: $600/semester maximum + $300-$500 residence hall credit/semester

Duration: Up to two years or 60 credit hours based on academic performance

Criteria: Available to all new incoming students who apply prior to first semester at TSJC and have earned a cumulative high school GPA of 3.8-4.0 (5 credit award = $600), 3.5-3.799 (4 credit award = $480) or 3.0-3.499 (3 credit award = $360). Students are required to carry 15 credit hours/semester and maintain a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Cumulative GPA will be used for continuing eligibility.

Deadline: The Friday before the start of fall semester

First Choice Red Carpet/Spring Fest Scholarship$250

Amount: $250/semester

Duration: First two consecutive semesters at TSJC

Criteria: Available to all high school senior students who participate in either the Red Carpet or Spring Fest events in the spring. Participating students are given a certificate at the event and are responsible for bringing the certificate to the Financial Aid Office to redeem the scholarship.

First Choice Art, Music and Theatre Scholarships$500

Amount: $500/semester

Duration: Fall and spring semesters

Criteria: Students must be enrolled in an Art, Music or Theatre program for at least 15 credit hours for both fall and spring semesters and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. See the Dean of Arts & Sciences for more information.

Deadline: The Friday before the start of fall semester

First Choice Concurrent Enrollment Scholarship6 Credit

Amount: 6 credit hours on-campus in-state tuition (3 credits summer semester, 3 credits fall semester)

Duration: Summer semester immediately following high school and the following fall semester

Criteria: Available to any new student who has completed at least one Concurrent Enrollment class with a “C” or better through TSJC. The scholarship will provide a three credit class for the summer session following the student’s high school graduation and a three credit class for the student’s first fall semester at TSJC. The credit may be applied to fall semester if the coursework is unavailable in the summer session. Students will be required to carry at least 6 credit hours if using the scholarship in the summer semester and 15 credit hours in the fall semester.

Deadline: The Friday before the start of fall semester

First Choice Never Ever/New Student Scholarship3 Credit

Amount: 3 credit hours on-campus in-state tuition rate

Duration: First semester of college

Criteria: Available to any new student at TSJC who has never, ever been to college or taken a concurrent class. The student must carry at least 15 credit hours for a fall or spring semester or 6 credit hours for a summer session.

Deadline: The Friday before the start of fall semester

First Choice President’s Scholarship12 Credit

Amount: 12 credit hours/semester on-campus in-state tuition rate

Duration: Fall and spring semesters

Criteria: Must be a Colorado resident and enrolled for at least 15 credit hours for fall and spring semesters. Scholarship will be offered to each Valedictorian and Salutatorian from high school graduating classes in Colorado with a minimum of 3.8 GPA.

Deadline: The Friday before the start of fall semester

First Choice Try 3 on TSJC Transfer Scholarship3 Credit

Amount: 3 credit hours on-campus in-state tuition rate

Duration: First semester at TSJC

Criteria: Available for a transfer student or former TSJC student with prior college credit. If credit was earned at TSJC, the student must have been out of college at least one semester. This award provides a 3 credit hour scholarship to a transfer student or former TSJC student who carries at least 15 credit hours for a fall or spring semester or 6 credit hours for a summer semester.

Deadline: The Friday before the start of fall semester

State Tuition Discount Program

College Opportunity Fund (COF) state funded program*

Amount: $960/semester based on 15 credit hours, $64/credit hour (subject to change)

Duration: Continuing

Criteria: Undergraduate students enrolled at state college and universities are eligible if they are classified as Colorado residents for tuition purposes. Eligible undergraduate students must apply, be admitted and enroll at a participating institution.

Financial Aid

Pell Grant federal funded program*

Amount: $2,823/semester maximum eligibility (subject to change)

Duration: Continuing

Criteria: The award is available to full-time students who are U.S. citizens, meet other federal mandated guidelines and are making satisfactory academic progress. Eligibility is based on FAFSA application.

Deadline: Apply online at www.fafsa.gov. The deadline for early consideration for Financial Aid is May 1st, preceding the college year for which assistance is desired.

Colorado Student Grant (CSG) state funded program*

Amount: $750/semester maximum eligibility (subject to change)

Duration: Continuing, based on satisfactory academic progress

Criteria: Students must be residents of the State of Colorado and must demonstrate financial need.

Deadline: Funds are awarded to early applicants who meet the financial aid deadline of May 1st.

The figures provided in the sample First Choice scenarios are based on Colorado in-state tuition rates, represent a typical Arts & Sciences student taking 15 credit hours and do not include book costs.

To receive the full First Choice award, a student must qualify for the maximum amounts and apply for the Automatic Merit Scholarship, attend a Red Carpet/Spring Fest event and apply for the College Opportunity Fund. Students interested in financial aid must also apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

College Opportunity Fund and FAFSA programs are state and federally funded assistance programs based on residency and income criteria. Award amounts for these programs are subject to change based on program requirements and federal and state regulations.

The College Opportunity Fund and any state financial aid assistance are only available to students classified as Colorado residents for tuition purposes. Refunds are applied to a student’s Higher One refund card.
