The Upward Bound Program is a federally funded program whose purpose is “to generate in students the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond secondary school” [Federal Register, 645.1]. UB Group

 

The TSJC Upward Bound Program serves 80 high school students from Las Animas and Huerfano counties in Colorado and Colfax County in New Mexico.

 

The goal of the program is to have students seek education beyond high school. 

 

*  Upward Bound provides academic and personal support to motivate and prepare students to attend college and earn a degree.

 

*  Students in the program receive instruction and tutoring in the areas of mathematics, laboratory science, composition, literature, and foreign languages.

 

* Cultural enrichment activities are also offered to enhance learning and aid in overcoming social barriers.

 

Participants must meet first generation and income requirements set forth by the Federal Department of Education.

*  Mastery Labs: Tutoring in all subjects with a concentration on math, science and english

*  Career counseling

Academic advising

*  Workshops on numerous topics in student academics & college prep.

*  Cultural enrichment activities and events

Field trips to colleges and universities

*  Financial aid information and assistance in filing forms

*  A six week campus program during the summer

*  Academic courses and cultural trips during the summer program

*  An on-campus college Bridge program for UB seniors who graduate from high school

*  A stipend is issued according to grades and participation Money mouth
