WENDY WAZUT

Wendy Wazut imageWendy Wazut Barrett is one of the preeminent scholars of historic scenery, mechanics, and all aspects of technical theatre. For decades, Ms. Barrett and her company Historic Stage Services have provided historic venues worldwide consulting and restoration services to bring stages back to life. Historic Stage Services specializes in the evaluation, restoration, and replication of stage machinery, draperies, lighting, and painted scenery collections. Ms. Barrett operates a blog of her professional endeavors; please visit drypigment.net for more information.

In partnership with the Fox West Theatre Alliance, the City of Trinidad, and Urban Neighborhoods, Inc., and through the generous support of various state and regional funding sources, Ms. Barrett will be returning to Trinidad’s historic Fox West Theatre, to properly extract, preserve, and store the theatre’s collection of scenic backdrops. The Fox West’s collection of large-scale painted backdrops, each a unique work of art, represent the years 1906 through 1930, and will be removed from the theatre to off-site storage during the week of January 17-24.

Trinidad State College is proud to welcome Ms. Barrett, as part of the TSC Arts Committee’s ongoing visit artists lecture series. This event will be held at 7pm in Trinidad State’s Pioneer Room, located in the Sullivan Student Center on the Trinidad, Colorado campus. Ms. Barrett will discuss her work and career, as well as provide new information about the Fox West Theatre’s unique collection of historic scenery.
