If you are considering an academic program that leads to a professional license in the state where you plan on living and working after graduating, it is highly recommended that you first seek guidance from the appropriate licensing agency in that state BEFORE beginning the academic program at Trinidad State College.

If you are considering an academic program that leads to professional licensure in
the state where you plan on living or working after graduating, please refer to this
list to ensure that the professional licensure or certification will be valid in the
state you will be working. Programs not listed have no national licensure examination
required to practice in the profession.
Completion of the Barbering, Cosmetology, Esthetician, Hairstylist, and Manicurist
certificates prepare students to take the State of Colorado licensure boards/exams
and has determined that the program meets the requirements for cosmetology licensing
in the following states: AL, AR, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, ME, MA,
MI, NJ, MS, MO, NH, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA.
These programs do not meet the requirements for licensing in the following states:
AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, IA, MN, MT, NE, NV, NM, OR, UT, WA, WV, WI, WY.
Completion of the Barbering certificate prepares students to take the State of Colorado
licensure boards/exams and has determined that the program meets the requirements
for cosmetology licensing in the following states: AR, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA,
HI, IL, IN, KS, LA, MD, ME, MS, MO, MT, NV, NH, NM, NJ, ND, OR, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX,
UT, VT, VA, WA, WY.
The Barbering program has determined that the program does not meet the requirements
for licensing in the following states: AK, AZ, ID, KY, MI, NC, OH, WV, WI.
Many states allow individuals who hold cosmetology licenses from other states to apply
for licensure by reciprocity. Each state has different requirements for licensure
by reciprocity, and students are encouraged to visit the Department of Regulator Affairs
(DORA) for the state they want to practice in to get further specifics.
